Born in Rajasthan, Nimrat was brought up in an army environment, thus hopping from one city to other and from one school to other. After losing her father, during a counter-terrorist operation, at a very young age she moved to Noida in the north of India and went on to finish her remaining schooling from DPS Noida and studied for her Bachelor's in Commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce. Nimrat finally made the inevitable move to Mumbai in 2004 after graduating and forayed into the world of modeling and advertising. She first caught the eye with the Tera Mera Pyaar music video from Sony Music. Thereafter she went on to model for over 80 Indian and international television commercials and numerous print campaigns for brands like Asian Paints, ICICI, Videocon, Pantaloon, Samsung, Aircel and Cadbury.

Nimrat Kaur (born 13 March 1982)[1][2] is an Indian actress who appears in Hindi films and in American television. She began her career as a print model and went on to act in theater. After brief appearances in a few films, Kaur starred in Anurag Kashyap's production Peddlers (2012). She followed it with her breakthrough role in the critically acclaimed drama The Lunchbox (2014).

In 2015, Kaur played the recurring role of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent Tasneem Qureishi in the fourth season of the American television series Homeland, and later reprised her role in its eighth season. She co-starred with Akshay Kumar in the war thriller Airlift. Kaur has since starred in the American mystery series Wayward Pines (2016) and the Indian drama series School of Lies (2023).

Airlift is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language political thriller film directed by Raja Krishna Menon starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur, that follows Ranjit Katyal (played by Kumar), a Kuwait-based businessman as he carries out the evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein's Iraq which led to the beginning of the Gulf War.[1] The film was jointly produced by Abundantia Entertainment, Cape of Good Films, Emmay Entertainment, Hari Om Entertainment, T-Series and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures on a total budget of ₹320 million.[4] The plot is adapted from the real life story of a Kuwait-based Indian businessman Mathunny Mathews.[5]
