Manco Inca Yupan­qui (1516–1544) (Man­qu Inka Yupanki in Quechua) was one of the Incas of Vil­cabamba. He was also known as “Manco II” and “Manco Cápac II” (“Man­qu Qhapaq II”). Born in 1516, he was one of the sons of Huayna Cápac.

Túpac Huallpa was a pup­pet ruler crowned by the con­quista­dor Fran­cisco Pizarro. Manco Inca then approached Fran­cisco Pizarro and Diego de Almagro in Cajamarca to nego­ti­ate a pact to rule the Inca peoples and Peru since all of the roy­al nobles were killed. The con­quista­dors agreed, and in 1534 Manco was crowned the ruler of the Inca in Cuzco by Fran­cisco Pizarro, and allowed to rule his people. He did not real­ize that he too was being used by Pizarro as a pup­pet ruler for the Span­ish con­quista­dors, who planned to con­quer his coun­try and its people.

Manco Inca Yupanqui was born in 1516, in Tiahuanaco, near Lake Titicaca. Her parents were Emperor Huayna Cápac and Coya Mama Runtu. As a member of Inca royalty, he was educated by great amautas in the Yachayhuasi of Cusco.

 

In 1533 he was recognized as Inca emperor by Francisco Pizarro in exchange for an alliance to end the Indian resistance of General Quisquis.

When war broke out between his brothers Huáscar and Atahualpa, Manco Inca returned from an expedition to Paititi to reinforce the former's troops. During the return he learned of the triumph of the atahualpistas who even already controlled Cusco (1532). They also informed him of the proximity of a Huascarista army that was accompanied by "emissaries of the god Wiracocha". It was the Spanish.

Manqu Inka Yupanki (Quechua) (around 1515 – 1544) (Manco Inca Yupanqui in Spanish) was the founder and monarch (Sapa Inca) of the independent Neo-Inca State in Vilcabamba, although he was originally a puppet Inca Emperor installed by the Spaniards. He was also known as "Manco II" and "Manco Cápac II". He was one of the sons of Huayna Capac and a younger brother of Huascar.[1]: 150 

Biography

Origin and enthronement

Manco Inca, one of the more than 50 sons of Huayna Capac, was born in Cuzco.[2] When Atahualpa's troops took the city under the command of General Quizquiz, they killed the descendants of Huayna Capac, the Huascar supporters, and anyone who could try to take the place of the Inca. Because of this, Manco Inca was forced to flee, avoiding any contact with the atahualpists.[3]
