Alex Beaton is a Scottish, guitar-playing folksinger who makes more than 20 concert appearances annually at various events across the United States (primarily highland games). Beaton appears annually at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina, and the Stone Mountain Highland Games in Atlanta, Georgia, two of the largest highland games events in the United States. Beaton has been called "probably the country's most popular Scottish folk singer." He has a baritone voice.
At many events, Beaton not only serves as a key entertainer, but as the event emcee. Beaton is known for his powerful stage presence and sense of humor. He frequently interacts and jokes with audiences while performing and in-between songs. One of his albums, Daft Ditties, is composed entirely of comedic songs. Beaton is also known for his keen knowledge of Scotland's history.

Alex Beaton passed away at his home on Jan 10, 2020, after several years of health battles.
Alex was born in Westchester, New York on May 18, 1933, later moving to Darian, Connecticut and then Bremerton, Washington. In the 1950s, after serving in the army during the Korean war, Alex moved to Los Angeles and began working at MGM studios in the mail room. From there he worked his way up, first becoming a film editor, and then eventually an executive producer. He went on to produce countless TV shows in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s; including Kung Fu, Harry O, The Greatest American Hero, Tenspeed and Brown Shoe, Centennial, Murder She Wrote, Hercules, Xena Warrior Princess and many others. He was nominated for an Emmy for Wiseguy.
While at MGM in the 1950s, he met his first wife Alice. They had two children, Cathy and Leslie. He later married Susan Barker, who he met while working in London. Alexander William MacLeod Beaton (July 15, 1944 – May 27, 2022) was a Scottish folk singer and guitarist. He performed across the United States and in Canada, hosted tours to Scotland,[3][4] and established folk singers as a regular feature at highland games in the United States, beginning with the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina.[5]
