Katie Stevens is a versatile young actress who has quickly established herself as one of Hollywood's most sought-after, vibrant young talents. She leads the cast of Freeform's "The Bold Type," which reveals a glimpse into the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for the fictional global women's magazine, Scarlet. The show, which premiered summer 2017 to fantastic reviews, is loosely based on Joanna Coles who serves as chief content officer at Hearst Magazines and previously served as editor in chief of Cosmo Magazine.

Katie began performing and singing at age 3. Her passion eventually landed her a spot on the "American Idol" stage. In August 2009, she auditioned for "American Idol" in Boston, Massachusetts and sang "At Last," where all four judges (including guest judge Victoria Beckham) advanced her to Hollywood. At the Boston audition, Judge Kara DioGuardi called her one of the most talented 16-year old singers she had ever seen.

Katie splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville.

Biography

"American Idol" (Fox, 2002-2016) finalist Katie Stevens soon distanced herself from her talent show beginnings with leading roles in subversive teen hit "Faking It" (MTV, 2014-16) and workplace dramedy "The Bold Type" (Freeform, 2017-). Born in Southbury, CT in 1992, Stevens began performing in local theater productions such as "The Wizard of Oz," "High School Musical" and "South Pacific" from a young age, but first gained national attention when she applied for the ninth season of "American Idol" (Fox, 2002-2016). Following an impressive rendition of Etta James' "At Last" at the Boston auditions, Stevens sailed through to the live stages, where she performed hits by Corinne Bailey Rae, The Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin to millions of viewers, before being eliminated in eighth place. She subsequently performed on the "American Idols LIVE!" tour and various daytime and late-night talk shows but shortly after switched her attention back to acting. Following a minor

Katie Stevens currently leads the cast of THE BOLD TYPE, which is inspired by the life of Cosmo Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles, whose fifth and final season recently aired on Freeform. The show offers a glimpse into the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for a global women’s magazine.

Katie made her acting debut as ’Karma Ashcroft’ on the critically acclaimed MTV series FAKING IT (2014-2016). She also starred in the series finale of CSI opposite Marg Helgenberger & William Petersen, and DINNER WITH MY DAD opposite Jason Alexander. Last fall Katie starred in DOLLY PARTON’S HEARTSTRINGS for Netflix. Each episode was scored with new and classic music from Parton, and the eight installments vary in tone according to the tone of the song on which they're based.  

KATIE can also be seen in the film HAUNT directed by Scott Beck & Brian Woods (A QUIET PLACE) and produced by Eli Roth. She is also known for the drama thriller POLAROID (2019), opposite Tyler Young and Kathryn Prescott.
