Catey Shaw is an American singer-songwriter who is well known for her viral song Brooklyn Girls.
Personal Life[]
Catey was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and later moved to Brooklyn. She grew up listening to artists such as Gloria Gaynor, Frank Sinatra, Shania Twain, and Jay-Z.[1] Catey went to an arts high school and later moved to New York to go to School of Visual Arts. She later dropped out due to financial problems.[2] Catey has 3 siblings, and previously had a lovebird named Ketchup that Catey had for 7 years and passed away in Winter 2015. The lovebird inspired and was featured in Catey's 2013 song named Ketchup.[3] Catey is currently living with her girlfriend in Brooklyn.[1]

21 year old singer/songwriter Catey Shaw was born in Virginia Beach where she lived until moving to New York City in 2010 to attend the School Of Visual Arts as a painter. Catey discovered her natural love and talent for music through her close relationship with her grandfather who was a radio host and songwriter in Syracuse. As a little girl when Catey went to see him sing in clubs he would only play her requests if she stood up on a chair and sang with him which she enthusiastically embraced and projected to the woed audience.
After writing 2 songs on a toy ukulele that was left at her house, her father bought her a real one for her 18th birthday which she still plays to this day in New York City subways stations around the area. Catey’s influences include Billie Holiday, and Bob Marley which is evident in her vocal style and approach to adapting and writing songs on the ukulele.
