Patek Philippe

Swiss luxury watch and clock manufacturer

Patek Philippe SA (French:[paˈtɛkfiˈlip]) is a Swiss luxury watchmaker and clockmanufacturer, located in the Canton of Geneva and the Vallée de Joux.[3] Established in 1839, it is named after two of its founders, Antoni Patek and Adrien Philippe. Since 1932, the company has been owned by the Stern family in Switzerland[4] and remains the last family-owned independent watch manufacturer in Geneva.[5] Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history since its founding.[6][7][8] It designs and manufactures timepieces as well as movements, including some of the most complicated mechanical watches. The company maintains over 400 retail locations globally and over a dozen distribution centers across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania. In 2001, it opened the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.[9][10][11]

A cult among collectors, Patek Philippe and its timepieces have been treasured by kings and princes, rock stars, and sportsmen. Notable customers of the storied Swiss watchmaker include Queen Victoria, and her great-great-granddaughter HM Queen Elizabeth II.

When I got home, I started researching various books and writings on Patek Philippe, which led me to the Patek Philippe Library on their website. After a visit to the salon to look at what the various books contained within them, I ultimately landed on Nicholas Foulkes’ book, Patek Philippe: The Authorised Biography.

Having spent my evenings over the last couple of weeks enjoying this book, I wanted to share my experience of it, and why in my humble opinion this magnificent work is a must-read for watch enthus
